Shanghai 5 from Charles Lanceplaine on Vimeo.
I only just recently came back from a holiday in China and this video takes me back to the 10-day trip that’s still fresh in my mind. The sites and landmarks shown were breathtakingly beautiful – especially at night and like local skateboarder Danny Zhang says in the video “Shanghai – it’s a hard city to describe. You gotta come and see it for yourself”. Admittedly, I don’t remember seeing many skaters in Shanghai, except for that one time when myself, Andrew and our friend Haily went exploring by ourselves and found a quiet park behind a museum with a group of skaters. It was surprisingly surreal – only because we didn’t expect to find it.
Skateboarding videos always intrigue me – with all the tricks that they can do, sometimes it seems impossible, but I guess anything’s possible right? The video above, presented by Charles Lanceplaine, Legion of Sorts and Roots and Rockets, is a perspective from the pros and locals whom skate and why they skate in Shanghai. I found it to be very interesting and they were right on point about the Asian (Chinese) traditional values! Haha. The soundtrack is very fitting too. Enjoy.
