The A-Team go to the Movies

The classic NBC action series was more than a show; it was an 80’s icon. The outlandish characters and storylines reveled in the ridiculous, delighting audiences the world over and in the process, permanently gouging out a place for the A-Team in the American pop-cultural landscape.

Now, after more than 20 years, 20th Century fox are planning to unleash the irrepressible do-gooders on a new generation. The updated story places the Team in a modern context, as Iraq war veterans on the run from their own government, accused of a crime they didn’t commit; as opposed to the original Vietnam War setting of the T.V series. The A-Team is being produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, so it promises to have an abundance of thrills, however at this point, actual details about the film are in short supply, only the cast list has thus far been released: Veteran Irishman Liam Neeson will be playing the team’s silver haired, cigar chewing leader Hannibal, Hangover’s Bradley Cooper continues to impress and has been cast as “The Face,” and the role of the team’s pilot, Murdock, has been filled by South African Sharlto Copley (one of the stars of District-9) however, with Mr T busy filming Snicker’s commercials, the question on everyone’s lips off course is, who will play the role of B.A Baracus? Well wonder no longer, because 20th Century Fox have now revealed that the A-Team’s mechanically minded juggernaut will be played by American MMA fighter and former UFC title holder, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Jessica Biel will also appear in the film, which will either be a lot of fun, or a pile of crap, but you can bet whatever happens, it won’t be dull. The film is due for release in Australia in June 2010, for now though, check out the original A-Team opening titles (in HQ) and remember the good times.
