Currently based out of Paris & New York City, German-born photographer Olaf Wipperfürth’s supreme list of clientele includes GQ, Rolling Stone, and Cartier – just to name a few. Influenced by studies of contemporary aesthetic theory and conceptual photography, Wipperfürth’s work is all about capturing “cinematic moments” for fashion and beauty shots. His work seem as though they’re screenshots from a colour saturated movie. It’s good to see photographers with a keen eye and work ethic for making things presentable and aesthetically pleasing for the consumers. I’m over the whole trashy, dirt-bag, ‘slutty’, american apparel look. For more of Wipperfürth’s work click HERE
Sydney’s up and coming Artists always Catch our eye. Our friend Kevin Tran are amongst the favorites. With his surreal style, and spontaneous vibrated and emotional colours, Kevin’s works allow for some amazing imagery. Please come and support his Solo Exhibition on the 3rd of September @ China Heights Gallery. It’ll be a blast. Click here for the facebook event.
Okay I don’t know much about film, and I don’t know much about snowboarding, but when it comes down to appreciating something, I’m pretty good at that. I came across this interview by Snowboard mag about Brad Kremer. I’ve never heard of this guy before and watching a few videos of his reel is probably the closest thing to snowboarding I’ll get to experience this year. This guy used to work with Mack Dawg, and if you’ve seen a few snowboard movies then you’ll know that they’re pretty dope.
It is games like these that I wish I had an Xbox 360. The game Limbo is a 2d puzzle platform which is done all in film noir. The whole black and white gives it a creepy atmosphere and environment which blends so perfectly together to make you feel like you’re actually in the game. How this game starts is you start off as a little boy that wakes up in the forest, and you don’t really get a brief on who you are or how you got there. The game is full of surprises and puzzles which I would really like to actually find out but since I don’t have an Xbox you’ll just have to listen to the guy on the video to find out more.
This is definitely my type of game, infinite lives, so that you can trial and error and find every single secret. It’s especially good when you have a life and have so many other things to do that you can finish this game in a day or a few if you’re really busy.
Even before I came to Australia, I’ve heard a lot about Phibs and his highly intricate tribal-influenced graff. So it was pretty dope to see him in action this time around at the Exhibition of Aerosol Works show out at Westsyde. First of all, we didn’t know where on the map this place was. Thank god for iPhones, Google, Navmans and our resident homie Jenn. Turned out, the venue was awesome complete with a wide open concrete space with what looked like a two story wall ready to be demolished. Hailing from Melbourne, DrewFunk made his own epic mark on the wall . A definite must see for all the aerosol addicts out there. Big ups to the crew at Westsyde Connection and others for organizing the show. Check out the rest of the photos after the jump.
I’ve recently started reading the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. These stories may have been written over a hundred years ago, but they are still vastly entertaining. I watched the recent movie, directed by Guy Ritchie, and despite the fact that I enjoyed in immensely I thought they were taking the piss with Holmes bare-knuckle boxing and being ridiculously eccentric and all that. But it turns out it was all closer to the truth of the character than I ever realised. The Sign of Four, the second story published in the Strand Magazine is most illuminating in terms of character; it beings with Watson’s description of seeing Holmes’ track-marked arm as he prepares to shoot up cocaine, and goes on to mention his outstanding performance in a duel with a prize-fighter. So have a read, it’s a lot of fun.
Cee-Lo Green has got that soulful voice thats pleasing for any market. 1 half of Gnarls Barkley and original Dungeon Family member, Cee-Lo has made strides in the mainstream market and at recent times has received the acclaim he deserves – Cee-Lo’s other single “Fuck You” went viral through the internet this past week, if you haven’t heard it yet, I’m 100% sure you will soon. I’m not too sure about this mix though, although I do have real soft spot for this song. The original is by Band Of Horses from their album Cease To Begin and I absolutely love it. I’d play the original on repeat for hours. Check after the jump for the Band Of Horses version.
We don’t get much baseball coverage down in Australia. I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan myself, but I do enjoy the odd defensive play or two. This highlight is just ridiculous. Baseball is massive in Japan, and with plays like this you can see why. Same team, different centre fielders, simply amazing.
Arguably one of the best design consultancy’s in the world, IDEO has recently created a new form of social networking forum, which offers its user community a means to participate ever changing ‘challenges’ to ultimately come up with a viable design solution. The concept seems pretty sweet, go check it out at OpenIDEO for what challenges you might want to contribute to.
